Game 2 world series
Trevino nonetheless got a hittable pitch, a middle-in fastball at 93.4 mph. Trevino, though, hit just .151 against left-handed fastballs in the regular season. He swung just under the ball and flied out 345 feet to center field. The Yankees stranded the bases loaded and finished the game 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Their ninth-inning rally made for another nailbiting finish but ended one big swing short of altering the game’s outcome.

The decision to pinch-hit Trevino against the lefty Vesia says more about New York’s thin bench than it does Trevino. Trevino, the backup catcher, hit .189/.282/.344 against lefties this year. The other option was top prospect Jasson Domínguez, a switch-hitter who is significantly better against righties. He slashed .185/.264/.246 against lefties in Triple-A.
Game 3 world series

Freddie Freeman then fouled a ball off his already sore right ankle. After taking an injury timeout that included a visit from a team trainer and manager Dave Roberts, Freeman reached first when he grounded into a force out at second base.
Buehler returned to pitch a 1-2-3 fifth and appeared ready for the sixth after throwing just 76 pitches. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts opted to go to his bullpen, rather than stress his oft-injured All-Star. The move paid off.
Walker Buehler had his best start of the year, Freddie Freeman homered for the third game in a row, and Shohei Ohtani played through a visibly sore shoulder as the Dodgers beat the New York Yankees 4-2 in Game 3 at Yankee Stadium. The Dodgers have yet to lose in this series and could win the franchise’s eighth championship as early as Tuesday.
Buehler returned from Tommy John surgery in May and had a 5.38 ERA in the regular season. He allowed six runs in the second inning of his first playoff start, and everything suggested that he was a diminished version of a once-great Dodgers starter. But Buehler looked like his old self in Game 3, and he’s now pitched 12 consecutive scoreless innings this postseason. He doesn’t have his former velocity, but he’s remained aggressive and found ways to beat some of the game’s best hitters.
